fuel pump replacement walbro

probably a pretty simple question here. I am a GN guy and know very little about the GS but have a buddy with a 99 supercharged of course. He just went through his second fuel pump and I would much rather replace it with a good walbro unit. But I am a bit confused. can someone please explain the double pick up and what seams to be a double pressure outlet (obviousely there is the the large corrugated hose but what the heck does the small black hose do?) I would think it would be possible to just buy a generic 255lph pump a little fuel hose and get it in there but I don't want to overlook anything and to be honest since I am doing this for free I don't want to spend too much time on it or looking around for informtion on it.
