Im looking at a car that the owner says is a full Art Carr race trans with an Art Carr 9'' non-lockup converter. 3500 rpm stall speed.
He also says that the car is set up for 1/4 mile. Any info on this setup would be helpful, for i dont know anything about it. He tells me that it isnt very streetable. Oh yeah the car is a TTA. Im confused about the non-lockup converter thing, what does non-lockup mean? And why would you use one? Is this strictly a racing part? Also does this make the car not streetable? Please any help would be great, cuz im kinda lost here!!
Thanks.

The Art Carr 9" is very streetable. As to if the car with a 3500 stall converter is streetable is another question. I ran a AC 3000 stall for a couple of years and it was just fine, with a 3.70 rear gear. I have a lockup converter now, which I have to admit is very nice.

I think the question is better put from the standpoint of is the total car setup streetable or not. Not knowing the specs you can't really say.

Non lock up simply means that the converter does not have a clutch to lock together the converter. Locking the converter lowers the RPM and improves mileage. AC has this feeling that a lock up is not appropriate on high performance applications, at least the last time I talked to them at PRI.

I think that converter is a nice unit and was happy with it.
