Hoping someone on here would be able to give me an answer on this...

Looking at a new '08 Cobalt to get back and forth to work (50 miles 1 way). I went on Chevrolet.com and typed in my zipcode and it says they are offering $2000 off of Cobalts. There is also an add for a "Presidents day sale" that is offering another $1000 off.

One dealer gave me a figure of 2000 off of MSRP, and mentioned that 1000 of it was the presidents day sale. So I asked, "isn't the normal incentive 2000"? He said no. Maybe just trying to get more $ out of me?

Was going to stop at local dealer Saturday that has one that stickers at $14,200. Subtract the $3000 in incentives and you get $11,200. A buddy of mine said I should also get $1000 off for GM loyalty as I have 4 GM vehicles right now. This would make it $10,200. Is there room to go from there with negotiating? I would think that these incentives are taken off of what the dealer pays GM for the car, not out of dealers pocket?

Well called another dealer... ends up that the $2000 off advertised is the total incentives available. That is with the Presidents day sale figured in already, which of course, isn't "written in English" in the advertisement.

He also said they haven't done GM loyalty for a year or so now... so much for loyalty. :D
