Hi, can someone identify this part #25509432? It is listed as a valve assembly on gmpartsdirect. It is white plastic, has elec connections, and a plunger type thing, looks like it hooks up to some vacuum line. It was plugged in under driver side carpet by steering column. There was also a large vacuum line under there just sitting next to it. Looks like they go together, but I dont know what it does. Any ideas?

Also, I either need to replace the neutral safety switch or fix the rod that goes to it. The column doesnt move when the gears are selected, no reverse lights, and my new max effort cant be programmed since it doesnt know its in drive. Is the cable from the tranny the one closest to the front, or the back of the car for the switch? and I cant figure out where it connects. I havent gone under the car yet, but I think it should connect near the firewall where the column exits. Are there any detailed instructions for this? I did plenty of searches already. Maybe once I get under it will be clear. Im thinking its the rod since the reverse lights go on if I twist the switch itself by hand. Thanks.

sounds like the back-up light switch to me .I think it also handels the cruise control. hth

Puddin :)

If the ring on the column doesn't move, most likely your column linkage is disconnected or removed. Column shifted cars only have the linkage from the column, where floor shifted cars have the column linkage and the shifter cable. The column linkage also works the netural safety switch. HTH

that part # is the cruise vacuum and elec disconnect switch ,and yes technically its a valve and it mounts above the brake switch at the top of the pedal under the dash, when pedalis up the switch is closed and cruise will function , when its down the switch opens and not only kills the electric but as a safety it quicly releases the vacuum to the cruise that is actually holding the throttle open so it can return .

someone probaly removed the lockout linkage that connects the trans shifter at the tranny to the column , , iits a linkage that has a pivot assembly that runs from the trans linkage plate to the frame and moving the linkage at the tranny with the shifter (connected via cable ) rotates the pivot assembly , from the pivot asembly there is a rod that goes up and connects to the bottom of the steering column near the lower corner of the back of the driverside valve cover
.

Thanks for the info , I'll just leave those parts where they are. Does the hose have engine vacuum or does it just go to the cruise diaphram. I would start the car and check but it runs rough right now.

As far as the linkage, it looks like I am missing it. I see a u shaped hollow bracket that the console shifter moves around attached to the tranny, but nothing is attached to it. I see up under the column and dont see anything there, except a bracket with a small hole through it. I cant view the picture given on this thread, so Im guessing.

Why do people mess with things like this and numerous other things on used cars, I can never understand that.

Anyone have any other pics, I may buy the parts through bweary. Thanks.

Thanks for the pic. Thats a lot of parts im missing. I dont have any of them except the bracket against the frame and the u clamp on the tranny.

Do you know what this attaches to in the column? I may just skip it, and try to override it to let it think its in drive. I need to program my maxeffort (with minimal effort :)

Thanks.

dont do that. the rod moves the jacket of the steering column and moves the switch thats mounted under the dash on the top of the column

if you have the tranny linkage plate and the frame plate you are just missing the pivot rod , spring and ball bushing and the rod that goes up to the column ,

you can get these from the junkyard from another G body since they arent turbo specific

I guess your right, I'll see if bweary has them.

I was thinking I could just rotate the neutral switch, but I guess theres something else. Thanks for your help.

you can just turn the jacket (grab the column by the dash behind the steering wheel and turn it clockwise ) to do your programming and youll need to spin it back to remove the key
but you really should fix the linkage so the ecm knows when you are in park , driving with the switch in the park postition can cause a check engine light and code 24 to be stored (24 is VSS circuit failed ..when there is nothing wrong with the VSS),

and youll get your backup lights working too
