Has anyone faced off against the 2003 SVT Cobra? The magazines print these cars as the unbeatable car of the decade. What do they really turn?Any input welcome. Thanks

Depending on the driver/track/mods/tires they turn anything from 14.2 to 11.8 in relatively stock form (the same as a recipe TR).

The difference is one is a new car costing $30K+ and the other is a used car where you can find a good used one for $7500.

10 Years from now when cobra's are $10K they will be a much better deal than a TR. Currently, for 1/4 mile duty, they are not.

Cobra

There is one at Pittsburgh Raceway Park that is running 12.7's consistently. The only mod he has is an air filter change. I don't know much about the Mustang's but he told me his car is an early model with the independent rear suspension that is prone to breaking and he can't leave hard. He is going to change to a different rear end and thinks his times will get better. Bruce

The new Cobras are no joke. If the driver knows how to drive it (1/2 of em don't!) he can run low to mid 12's if he hooks. With just a couple mods it's an 11 second ride.

The Mustang guys think they're all that since they're so quick...but if you put even just $10k into a TR, you've got a 10 second ride...not $30 or $40k. :)

I spanked a Cobra just a little while ago (see Kill/Fish "Cobra Bad attitude") I know at min he had an aftermarket exhaust on it, the thing was very fast. He got a jump on me so I know he knows how to driver stick. My tires hooked pretty well that night. :D

I raced one in the 1/8th and spanked him. He only cut a 2.2 60ft and ran a 8.8. My car beat that in street trim.

unbeatable i doubt it there not even the waste of alcky for me even if they were moded

we have one that had work done doing 13.1 which isnt bad could be 12?? with traction but still behind

trying for 11 second club

It depends..

Right from the showroom, with street tires, it's a 13 second car. Right from the showroom, with street tires, it will corner at about 0.9 gs. Right from the showroom, with street tires, it will stop MUCH quicker than a GN or a turbo Regal, since it has 4 wheel disc brakes, with 13 inch rotors in front. And it will run about 155 mph, without going airborn. So, yeah, it's a lot more money, but it does a lot of things very well, and can be modified to do those things even better. And it would be brand new, under warranty, if you had one. Whether it's worth the difference in price.. well, I guess that's a function of what you have to spend, and what kind of results you want. Not worth 35,000 to me, but I would take one, if somebody gave it to me.

They are very impressive since they respond even better than the TR's to simple mods. Mine put out 404 rwhp with just an air filter. However, ford was stupid in putting that weak ass IRS in a car with this much power potential. I would only run mine from a roll for fear of breaking one of those anemic half shafts. They are extremely fun, but I would rather have 3 or so nice TR's.

I went to a Ford SVT track rental in May. There was 4 or 5 new 03 Cobras there. They were running from 12.8-13.2 pretty consistantly all day long most with stock or minimal mods-- air filter and DR's. I was expecting more from all the hype that I saw online about "stock cobra's running 11's". Nice car now that the F body is gone, there is really no more options in the 30k range, its either a corvette or cobra, or that overpriced GTO that is coming soon.

Nothing that a mildy modified TTA couldn't take out, I'm sure they stop faster then a TTA with the 13" front brakes. But then again the TTA was from 1989, 14 years older.

I raced a stock one at the track. It appeared stock anyway..:D

I looked at his tires and, AHA! Street tires! He had at least 2 MPH on me on the timeslip, but since I was running slicks, and he wasn't... Guess who finished first? :D ;)

Re: Cobra

ALL the 03 Cobras have independent rears. And they are VERY strong, Nitrous Pete is in the 9's with his

These cars are easy low 13 cars with a good driver - high twelves with good air. Really affected by air temps. just like a GN. Crappy trans and shifter....I bet half of the street racing vids I have downloaded have the driver missing a gear.

A novice driver can go fast in a GN . The crappy trans in the Cobra requires some skill, thus a lot of inexperienced drivers in a Cobra will get their arse handed to them.

A $130 pulley and a chip will gain 40 - 60 HP....

Had two runs against a bone stock one with my WS6..... the guy couldn't shift too well. He lost by two tenths against my 13.0x's with practice, he would be right there.

Does anyone know if the 03 Cobra comes with traction control? If so I wonder how good it works in bad weather. This year I'm looking to get something for the winter (snow) and I've been thinking about the WRXsti, but if the Cobra has at least half decent traction, I may go that way. The GN started to feel a little squirrely in the snow last winter after I made my last round of upgrades, so, I'm going to be nice and let her rest during the winter season.
