Ok, in previous posts, I had explained about installing the new rear cylinder for the drum brakes, Well in order to get the clip off I had to take the backing plate off. OH WELL, lets see I take the two bolts off, or the tops of em at least. Each one snaps like they were made of aluminum foil. Barely even put any pressure. Needless to say, they are now stock in there and I only have access from the back. And I cant drill them out till I get the backing plate off. AND, I cant get the backing plate off unless I take the Axle shaft out (hub). Do I just bang the shaft out? And will any fluid come out??? This damn thing is such a nightmare. Any help would be appreciated, and if you can get that far, how do I bleed all the brakes? in what order.

Your not serious about just banging the axles out are you???
You need to pull the diff cover, rotate the center until you see the tiny bolt head that holds in the spider gear shaft that runs throught the center of the diff. Remove the bolt and rotate the diff so you can slide the shaft out then push the axles in which will allow you to pull out the C- clips from the ends of the axles from the center of the diff then the axles will slide out.

Stay with it, you'll feel better when its all back together and rolling.
HTH

By the way, be very careful removing the small shaft bolt because if you strip or break it, ti won't be fun. I'm not sure what the torque spec is for putting it back in but be sure to look it upsomewhere.

Buy a manual.

To remove the axles you must remove the diff cover. Using a SIX POINT SHALLOW DO NOT USE A 12 POINT. If you round this bolt you are screwed 1/4" drive 5/16" socket, remove the pin holding the spyder gear bar thingy. Once the bar is removed, simply push the axles in, take the C-clips out (a magnet makes this simple), and slide the axles out. BEING CAREFUL not to pull them across the seal

Additionally, if you read a manual, you'd see the wheel cylinders are really easy to remove, provided the brake lines arent rusted in. Using a dental pick or scratch awl, put the tool (whichever you aquire) into the little groove in the wheel cyl (the sides where the clips tangs slide onto. Using your pick, spread the clip outward. Do this for both sides of the wheel cyl and pop the clip off. Then using a flat blade screwdriver, pry the cyl from the backing plate. (I say pry because sometimes theyre rusted in pretty good). Now, the trick to INSTALLING the clips, is a 1" open end wrench. With the jaws of the wrench on the clip, using the heel of your hand, whack the other side of the wrench, popping the clip back into place. There IS a tool for this, but I make do with what I have and NEVER had a problem doing it my way. Make sure the tabs in the clip engage under the recess in the cyl and you're done. Put the axles back in, put the clips back in, put the bar/pin back in. Use "The Right Stuff" by permatex to seal the diff cover, fill w/90 weight and additive and you're done.

Hey, relax, dont lose you rhair over the car. Just relax and think about some things. I just redid my rear cylinders, YOu doint have to take the backing plate off. All you have to do is take the pads off, disconnect the brake line from the cylinder. NOW if you look at the rear of the cylinder each side of it has a metal clip holding it in place, this is a one piece clip. on the top of the clips you will see a little hole in the cast of the cylinder. you stick a pointy thing in it that doesnt flex, stick it in good and pop the tab. when it pops out do the other side. now it will come out. Take a break for a few days to calm down. there are no bolts to take off to do this!

good luck!

Start with the brakes fartherest(spelling?) from the master cylinder. In this order: Right rear, left rear, right front, left front
Hope that helps, sorry can't help you on your other issue, but the other guys post sound like good advice!;)

Dude I get the same way, I get frustrated at this damm thing. The best thing I can tell you to do is work on it until you get tired or mad which ever one comes first. Then put the tools down and walk away. Go inside take a break and relax.

I started the powerstroke IC install a week ago Saturday. I had just read a post saying this was a day long project, well a week and 2 days later the IC is in and I am waiting on the radiator to be repaired from where I punched a hole in it. Yes I got mad butI walked away.

I know this doesn't help with your current problems but it sure will help with the outcome of the job. I found myself to want to half azz somethings when I try and do it ot fast, just me.

Good luck with your brakes and if anyone wants to see my IC install just click on the website button below.

Yes I just walked away. Funny thing is, I only wanted to take the bolts off the backing plate to make the install easier. HAHAHA, yeah it made it much easier. I really dont wanna take the differential cover off or mess with the axles. So I guess im gonna try to take the bolts off by the other ends with locking pliers until I get it. Life Sucks. Good Luck;)

Hang in there! After eight years, two motors, two transmissions, three turbo's, I have wanted to drive the car off a cliff. But, I gotta tell ya,when the thing breaks traction at 50 mph, kicks a Viper GTS in the balls, or gets me kicked off a track cause its TOO fast, It is all worth it.
