going back to l/u

the previous owner removed the check ball to make it a non luck, will i need a whole input shaft or just the check ball

The ball on the shaft has to do with something else (I think). What that is, I have no idea. Mine doesn't have it.

All you need to do is swap the non lock-up valve, to a lock-up valve.
