Good place to tap sensor in for Oil and Trans Temps?

Im looking at installing some transmission on engine oil temp gauges. Is there a real good and easy place to install the sensor at? I also have a fitting in the turbo oil feed line for the oil pressure so I kinda dont want to have too many things hooked up to that port but if its the easiest then I might do that. And where to put the temp sensor for the transmission? Pics would also be great! Thanks!
 
My trans temp sendor is near the bottom of the trans pan about 2 inches to the left of the drain plug, I've got one of Kip's deep sump trans pans.
 
I put the trans temp sensor on the cooler return line. If I was to to an oil temp I'd use the oil cooler return line. (if you have one) If you don't I'd look at putting a bung in the pan.

why would you put the temp sender on the return side from the cooler? that makes about as much sense as putting the engine coolant temp sender in the return line from the radiator.
not all the oil goes thru the cooler all the time, and even if it did, i'd think that putting it there wouldn't represent the true temps inside the motor or trans.
maybe putting them on the outlet from the motor or trans where it reads the temp as it leaves the motor or trans would be more accurate if you don't want to punch holes in the pans.
 
Here is how I did my oil temp. mechanical gauge.

All the NPT stuff in the adapter is 1/2" NPT easy to plumb the large autometer mechanical bulb into the oil stream and not block it.

Gauge bulb with capillary tube is obviously in the center T port, but hard to see in the pictures.

Ya know what? You're absolutely correct. I'll have to double check that it's not on the feed line to the cooler. In retrospect though it doesn't make any sense to put it in the pan either.
 
Pan is best as the fluid coming out of the tranny is going to be hotter than whats coming out of the sump feeding it.

Is the top oil hose feeding the oil cooler the feed line or the return line? I would assume the highest line going into the radiator (both the trans and/or engine oil lines) would be the feed to the radiator and the lower hose would be the return? And where to put the transmission oil temp sensor? Was gonna put it on the transmission test port but the sensor is to long and wont screw in. Anyone?
 
actually, the lower line on the trans is the hot output to the cooler and the top one is the return. the GM engineers ran the lines like that for air bubbles or something.
i don't know about the stock oil cooler, but i'd assume they are the same.
 
It doesn't matter as long as the temps. are "normal". :p

I look for changes from the norm, rarely see any excepting in the summer with A/C on and high speed driving, even racing doesn't get the oil over 220.

Winter it's 150 mostly.

I didn't put an oil temp. gauge on the GN. ;)
