I had to get a new harmonic balancer because the key way on mine had widened to twice as large as it was supose to be. The key it self and end of the crank shaft visually looks okay. The new (used) balancer I got still seems to have a small amount of play once I put it on (did not tighten the main bolt yet). I also could just slip it on the crank shaft by hand. Shouldn't it of fit tighter on the crank shaft and have no play at all in the key way?

I had a similiar problem with the balancer on my last GN. The balancer key way slot was twice as wide as it should be and the balancer was cracked. The balancer in turn was walking around and throwing the timing off. Car was running poorly.
After getting another balancer (thanks STP) it ran great..

The balancer will go on by hand but make SURE to tighten the balancer bolt very well. (I've also had a balancer come off on a different TR).

There may be a "little" play with your new key way, but it should be minimal..

How much are we talking here???

HTH..

Thanks 1ARUNEUM! There is not that much play. I will make sure to put some thread lock on the bolt at torque it to 250 foot pounds. I was just suprised when it slipped right on. I thought it would of been a tighter fit than that.
