Hi guys. This weekend I yanked the tranny out of the Ttype to replace the flywheel and converter because of an odd noise. Well, it turned out that the flywheel was bent some, and I went ahead and replaced the converter because the tranny was out. My question is, how many of you are using/have used a flywheel from a "regular parts store"? I got mine from Advanced Auto Parts and I made sure they knew it was a turbo car. It was 50 bucks I think. I also priced a GM one but they didnt have one in stock. Of course I was on a time schedule, the car had to be back together by Monday as it is my daily driver. What have you guys heard/experienced? Do I really need a SFI (I think thats what they are called) flywheel? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

No, you do not need (either in general or in rules compliance) a $200 SFI-certified flexplate at the ET of your car. If you are thinking of planning for the future and worried about tech inspections when your car may be faster, remember that the SFI rating on JW wheels expires after three years anyway. JW doesn't recertify wheels anymore, you would have to buy another one after it expires to stay in tech compliance!
