Having previously owned a 87 GN...I am looking to get another GN/Turbo Regal. My question is this.....can the GN drivetrain be swapped into a Regal? I am pretty sure they are the same frame etc... The reason I ask is because I have the opportunity to buy a Regal for under 1000 bucks, and I have 4000 more to spend on motor, trans (if needed), and a few mods. The Regal is an 82...and the drivetrain I want to swap in is from an 87 GN. Essentially it would be a T-Type, right? Someone help me out on this one.

Yes! This is the easiest way to swap intercooled drivetrains. Keep in mind, you'll want the matching BRF 2004R trans with crossmember and a 8 1/2 3.42 10 bolt posi rearend. Should be a great sleeper with the `82's trim.

Good Luck! - Jimmy

Thanks for the replies...the goal here is a sleeper car. Do any of you think it can be done for under 5 grand? Thats my main question. Also, is there a website or technical reference which will detail the process? Anyone?

i've seen it done before. unfortunatly it was a hack job, but could easly be done right.

I haven't seen any sites telling how to swap a lc2 into a regal, but theres plenty of people who have done that to other cars. i've seen a few el caminos, i'd start by finding some of thoes people and asking them what they did, its basically the same thing. all you shoudl really need to do is swap the engines and wireing harness, a lot of little stuff and be done, shouldn't be much more than swaping 2 engines.
