Long story short, I pulled the motor in my ttype this weekend for a freshening. Got it back in Saturday night at 330am, started it up and let it run for a while. When I changed the oil the next morning, I drove it for a few miles, and took it home. I noticed a light ticking noise at idle. At first I thought it was bearings or something in the motor. But, after closer inspection (stood under the car at work while it was running), the noise seems to be coming from the transmission. I have no idea how to explain it, but its a light tick AFTER the car has warmed up. "Cold" starts (remember its 90 here in KC, lol), the car is quiet for a while, then the tick starts. Also, when I spool up on the brake, you can hear a swooshing or a "shhhhhhhhtttttttttttt" sound coming from under the car. No, its not the airfilter, or anything else. Its not normal. If anyone could help me out that would be wonderful. Im racking my brain here trying to find out whats wrong with the car. It was fine before the motor pull. Thanks

A torque converter with a loose or pulled fin will make clicking and "shhhhhhhhtttttttttttt" sounds. Does the sound change pitch when the transmission is placed in gear vs. being in park/neutral?

That is exactly what I told him the other night in Chat.

Converter.

Well, some new info has come up. I took the converter bolts out last night. I took out the last bolt and the converter pulled away from the flywheel crooked. Then I tried to spin the converter and it hit the top of the flywheel. After some wiggling and some rotating, I got the converter straight I think. Bolted it back up and it still made the same noises once warmed up. I guess Ill buy my friends D5 from his car and see what happens.

So do you guys think I hurt anything else? Oh yeah, last thing, when I rotated the converter back and forth very fast, it sounded like something was rattling around in it. :(

Yikes!

I'm no guru but I think the converter being able to get "crooked" bettween the flexplate and trans is a bad thing. Also here's a quote from Greg (MeanBuicks) from another post reguarding converter vibration, might help you as well:

If a torque converter is causing a vibration, it can usually be felt in Park by slowly running up the rpm. You can then unbolt the converter from the flexplate, push it back in the transmission and run the test again. Hopefully, the vibration subsides.
Hope that's OK Greg?

I'd advise you to remove your pan to check for debris. No sense in cross-contaminating a good converter if your current one has begun blowing chunks.

Pulled the pan today, its pretty clean. No black dust, no chunks, just a few small metal shavings on the magnet. (NOTE: I pulled the tranny pan a few weeks back and replaced the TCC, filter, and gasket). So, my next guess is a cracked flexplate????? Any ideas guys?

Replaced the flexplate (slightly bent) and the converter last weekend. Still making the "clicking" noise..............front pump??? HELP
