I am setting up my gauges and was wondering where i could find a few things

Where can I find a place to splice the wires into the headlights so when I turn them on the gauges lights turn on as well?

where can I pick up an ignition wire as well so they dont run all night?

thanks

Carl

Fuse panel has plenty of spare IGN terminals as well as BAT terminals should you need them.

You can use the dash light wire for the radio, rear defroster, or console shift light to run your gauge lights with the dimmer control. I would only add 3-4 lamps tops to this circuit. The dash light wires are all gray in color to the lamp circuits.

The brown wire termianl A on the light switch itself is the parking lamps feed to the dash lights before the dimmer circuit.

Fuse the wiring to the new lights maximum 5 ampere fuse.

In the service manual picture there is a LPS socket right under the 5 ampere LPS fuse. Might be a good spot to get the lights hooked up too.

Never used it myself. Not sure what kind of terminal is in the actual car.

Using the console shift lamp wiring is not the best idea since pulling the lamp off it's mounting point or having the wiring catch on the metal parts when the shifter moves is a bad thing.

Wires would need to be secured well and make sure the lamp can still move with the shifter in all positions.

I would use the radio lamp or the spare ash tray lamp wire that is usually found under the radio for use in the regular Regals.

ok I pulled back the black piece in the center console shift and there is no lamp, however there are two wires there
a black one and a brown one? any ideas?

if I had to guess black would be the negative for the lamp and brown would be its positive

thanks

also I looked on gnttype

they have an area with sensors and one that says 12v ecm?

can I use that for any of the connections?

thanks

What year and model car is this?

What do you have for a shifter light?

Gray wires for the lights in '86 and '87 at least.

Use the fuse box for regular power IGN or BAT terminals.

87 GN

there is no light in where the center shifter is

if we are talking about the same thing
I am assuming that its the light that would be on when my headlights or parking lights were on and it lights up what gear I am in correct?
we arent talking about a shift light or anything like that on a tach are we?

thanks

Carl

Nope assuming you have the console shifter there should be a light that moves with the assembly to show the gear you are in.

I'd still dig around down there and look for a gray wire end anyway.

Not sure what those other wires do.

ok last question

where can I run the wires through the firewall?

meaning where in the firewall is an opening to feed these through it, instead of me making a new hole?

thanks

Carl

On the driver's side just above the steering column IIRC. It's a big rubber grommet about 2.5" in diameter although the actual opening in it is quite small. Just look on the firewall between the brakes and the block and you'll find it. ;)
