high oil pressure problems

i have a 87gn with 83,000 miles on it and the engine has never been opened i am running 20w50 in it today i started it up and the oil pressure was 45-50 cold and it went to 27 hot so i drove the car around the block and i was looking at the gauge and the pressure went to 100 psi and stayed there so i stopped the car left it running at idle it was still at 100 i revved it up a couple of times and it went back to 27psi what could be wrong i checked it with 2 different gauges it did the same thing i am running a pf52 filter too

there is a pressure relief valve in the oil pump that possibly could stick, but if you have 100 psi at idle, i think you may have a gauge issue.
did you put a mechanical gauge on it?

running 20/50 in the middle of winter is not a very good idea

i checked it with another gauge i bought a new one same thing happened the only reason i started it yesterday was because i hadnt started it in a long time it was nice yesterday when the sun was out now i am having problems

Probably the valve inside the pump is sticking do to varnish or other contaminents. You could take the big nut off the front of the oil pump and and pull the valve and spring out to check. Make sure you didn't lose pump prime when you restart. You could also just try changing oil with a lighter weight to help flush it out.

Is it an electric gauge? if it is, and the ground wire is loose, once it breaks its connection it will shoot up to past 100psi. Then maybe when you revved it made a connection again and started reading correctly.
