This might be a dumb question, but is it normal to hear hissing from under the back of the car when it's running? I just figured this was the fuel pump making that noise, but I don't remember hearing one that loud. I'm not sure if it's always been doing this, but this is the first time I've noticed it.

TIA,

James

Does it do it all the time? Fuel pump noise is much more noticable when your low on fuel.

It is normal for some of the high performance fuelpumps to make a hissing type noise. My walboro 307 does. The stock pump has a pulsator on it to keep it quiet.

It could be some sort of exhaust leak by the muffler if you are still using the stock exhaust. I have noticed the pipes that cime of the y pipe into the muffler like to rust like mine have so it could be that. Best would have someone rev the car while you stand behind to hear if it gets louder, then it could be an exhaust leak.

No, the exhaust is a fairly new stainless setup. I thought that at first, but that's not it. It's coming from the gas tank area.

I'm not sure what kind of fuel pump I have. As far as I know it's stock and my tank is 3/4 full.

The pulsator on the stock pump has a new improved design to work better. If yours is original the pulsator could be failing.Or if your fuelsock is plugged it might be working the pump to hard. When the time comes you should get rid of the stock pump if thats what you do have in the tank.Your car will love you;)

I have Red's pump and I can hear it hissing. After a long run on the highway it gets even noisier.
