The title says it all! Have a 1987 GN want to make the car look its best. Kirban recommends this product. What do you guys think?? Thanks Mike D.

It works good if you don't mind spending the money. They recommend washing the car with Joy detergent, claying it, put on their base coat, apply their finish coat, buying new cotton towels, polishing the paint at 90 degree angles in a specific pattern, etc. etc. I got tired of all the BS and went to Turtle Wax glazing compound and a 6 inch orbital polisher. I couldn't tell the difference..

Great stuff! Worth the extra time to use. Darker and deper shine with every application used:D

Zaino is more hype than anything, especially on these forums...but yes Zaino is a good product when used correctly. Nobody can deny it's wet look and extreme durability. I'm am an ex Zaino user, but have moved onto different products and have had amazing results.

The biggest problem with Zaino is that there is no swirl remover in thier product line. I know people are going to claim Z5 is a swirl remover but I won't even argue with you b/c I know for certain it will not remove swirls (it hides them at best, and does a poor job at that). You will need a good polish and rotary tool to get the swirls out, that goes without saying. Black is the hardest color to care for, and it will look like crap no matter how many coats of Zaino it has if there are swirls all over it.

Basically it all comes down to the prep, prep is EVERYTHING....the products you use are almost a non-factor after you consider the prep and process. Zaino is a good product when it has a good prep under it, does it live up to it's miracle working hype - NO....can I recommend it to you - sure.

I'd suggest going to http://www.autopia-carcare.com/ and reading everything on there before making your decision.

Good Luck!

I agree completely. Zanio is overpriced IMO and isn't worth the effort. I'll stick with some 3m Hand Glaze and NXTwax.

I have Meguiars NXT in my garage and plan on using it on my 87 GN,they say its good for dark colors.I'm gonna try it soon and let use know.

I'm trying to figure out why everyone says Zaino is expensive.
Any good paint finish product has the basic same principle

polish
glaze
protectant
quick detail

Zaino cost no more than anything else...The only difference is, Zaino leads you to believe you HAVE to use all the products all the time and, you don't.

That being said, there is alot of good products out there...everyone will have a differing opinion on what is "best"

I've used Zaino, good stuff...but so is Race Glaze, Maguires, NXT etc...with proper prep, they all look great.
Like was said, it is all in the PREP.

Used properly, Race Glaze Polish & Sealant is an excellent product for removing swirl marks,
and cobweb marks seen so often on black and other dark colors. This may be used by hand,
or by machine (any type of buffer). I personally feel that the best results for improving the surface/shine is with foam - hand held detail pads, or foam buffing pads if done by machine.
We also have Leveling Compound, which is a very gentle product,
that breaks down (gets finer) during use - starts at a grit size of about 1,100 and ends up at about 3,000. This product is designed for power buffer use, but also produces excellent results when used by hand.
The Polish & Sealant has an ultra fine polishing agent finer than jewelers' rouge,
which goes from about 3,000 to about 5,000 grit.

We give all fellow Buick TR owners a 10% discount (except for our "Monthly Specials").

I'm very happy with Meguiar's NXT,very easy to use-goes on and off easily.I thought I needed a polish job before using it.Now that I used it I see I don't have to have her polished at all.

How good is Zanios?

Tried the things I have already: ( All Meguiars Products ) Washed, Paint Cleaner, Swril Mark Remover #2 (2 times), #2 Polish, Glaze. Have not Waxed the GN yet, had good results. All was done by hand, don't want to use a wheel! Thanks Guys, what do you think?

I did all meguairs too. and it looks great

hand wash with nxt car wash
clay bar
i used their G-100 6" porter cable buffer to do their #83 compound/polish then #80 glaze
hand wax with nxt tech wax

i used microfiber towels on everything.

this was the first time i ever used a machine to buff out the paint. it worked great. meguairs has some nice safe foam pads depending on what you want to use them for. saved on a lot of elbow grease on my part and theres a nice velcro backing kit for the G-100 which makes swapping out pads a cinch.

i'm sure you can get the same results from just about anyones line of products. trick is to do all the steps to prep the paint before applying the wax.

I'm currently using Eagle one NANOWAX. Works pretty good, but I thing the secret is, as ZAM70 has expressed many times, is not to use cotton cloths to take off the wax. You have to purchase the micro fiber cloths. They leave no fine scratches as with cotton. In themselves, the micro fiber cloths make a great improvement. :D

when i had my red 95 formula firebird i would use eagle wet one with teflon on it and the paint just looked awesome. at night with the light reflecting off of it , it looked like the paint was melting away from the body. good stuff :)

I tried Zaino on my GN and did not like it, but to be fair I had unrealistic expectations. I have sinced learned a ton about detailing and I'll be happy to pass this along to you. To me, Zaino is for cars with perfect paint only.

1. Zaino is a polymer sealent. What you put it over is what you get. It will not remove or hide any imperfections. It is very reflective and to me is a "sterile" shine on a GN - not deep and lusterous. Zaino is more durable than most LSP's, but if the GN is not your daily driver, that should not be an issue.

2. The key to making your GN looks it's best is in the preperation. Go to autopia. org to get an education on how and what to use. There are a wide range of premium products to choose and experiment with. Some products will remove imperfections and some will remove and hide or fill them.

3. I am of the opinion that a premium Carnuba looks better on a black car because it creates more depth and tends to fill imperfections still remaining after preperation.

4. Here are some combos I would consider.

EINZETT 1Z Polishes to prepare your paint( these polish and fill)

Klasse All in one to seal

P21s, Meguires or Pinnacle Carnuba as your top coat

---- OR ---------

Meguires # 80, Followed by # 7 0r # 9 and the above carnubas as your LSP.

if you do not have a Porter Cable random orbital - you should consider one.

Good luck
