Newbie here and I saw an 84 GN for sale. 57K miles and asking price is $8K. No serious mods are done to the car, but I know it has less HP/TQ rating, smaller turbo then 86-87 GNs and no IC.

My questions:
1- What can I do to make this baby run like 86-87 GN?
2- Is it worth $8K?

Thanks!

8k is a little high for an 84 unless it is NICE, at least in this part of the country.
I paid 8K for my 87
An 84 can be made to run as fast as an 86/87, it just costs more.

That price is a little high. To get them to run like the later ones it takes a chip, filter, raise boost, and you will have a good run with a STOCK 86-87.

It seems high for an 84, but their value is rising still and if it's really clean, I think it's worth it. I paid 4k for my 84GN with nearly 89k miles on it. It's a decent car for the moeny and I don't regret it one bit. For one with 32k miles less....I'd pay that. But only if it was totally original(or really really close to it) and as long as it is totally rust free and clean. I mean, super clean. Which for a car that's getting close to 20years old....57k miles should look like 10k.

I paid 5500 for mine. It had 48k on it and was in nice shape and totally original. No rust at all but has the laquer cracking going on in the paint.

I paid $2200 for mine with under 58,000 original (have documentaion). Every option including T-Tops and digital dash, and G80 rearend. It needs a few little things, like a antenna, electric fan or clutch fan shrowd, injectors, rear seal. Exerior needs some paint and a few badges. I bought it from a friend of a friend that also owns a '86 GN and a WE4. I also got a few extra with it like a adjustable accuator, front clip braces, etc. Mods on the car when I bought it are ATR pitbull exhaust and test pipe, Walbro fuel pump hot-wired, and a new radiator.

From a purely collector point of view the 84 GN is worth more than both the 85 and 86. It was the first year of SFI, first year of black, Lear seats....and the list goes on. If you're looking for purely power though go with an 86-87.
