I have a 87 GN that does not have the posi option. What does making my car posi entail?? do i just need to buy a posi carrier and have it installed?? How much money would an installation cost me?? Thanks.

Buy an eaton for around $340 from gear R Us. Install would be between $100 and $200. Call around and talk to 4X4 and performance shops in you area.

A cheaper alternative is a junkyard or used posi housing and rebuild it.

I've never heard of an 87 coming without posi. It was an extra cost option on the 86's, and as such, some of them came with open diffs. But I thought all the 87 got the G80 carrier.

Powertrax

I would check this out. www.powertrax.com I didn't even know about it until the company I work for bought this company. It is supposed to be a DIY install and Summit sells them for about $300. Reports are good on them.

also check out the parts for sale section for a GM unit. They are very reliable.

This seems backwards, me telling you something after you trained all us Trans + users :D . Anyway, my 87 GN was not G80. Only the late builds, August and later, all had posi. I have definitely read too much about the cars :) . It's listed as the $100 option on my T, but not on the GN window sticker.

Wish I had that Eaton instead of the Powertrax  . I think the Lock Right Locker may work well (original design), but the No-Slip I have is nothing like a stock posi (got one in the Turbo T). Had some troubles and not sure if it still works correctly. Here is the info on my Powertrax experience:

Yes we sell Eaton Posi Units for $339.00 and they are a nice clutch type posi that is rebuildable!

Powertrax

Thanks for the info on the Powertrax. I was under the impression they were better than that

The TR guy I first talked to about Powertrax has ran mid to low 11s for 5 years on the Lockrite original version. If I was to do it again, I would go that route or with the Eaton.
