Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a product that
will remove tree sap from my paint.
I have large pine trees by my driveway and sometimes they'll
drop a big blob of sap on the paint. The stuff is sticky and
gooey and difficult to remove.

I get it on my daily driver from time to time. Wash it. That easy. Some soap and water takes it right off with ease. Anything else makes a sloppy mess screwing up the clear coat. Car cover will also stop that. Or chop the tree down is the best way like I finally did! :D

haha, I'm seriously thinking of taking the tree down.
I firmly believe that trees and cars do not get along,
if it's not dropping sap on my paint it's filling my cowl
full of pine needles.
Actually the sap is uneffected by washing, it's too thick.
I can scrape some away with my fingernails but it leaves
behind a big sticky spot.
I know there is a chemical out there that removes it easily,
I've used it before but I don't remember what it's called.

Hows that exhaust???

Believe it or not ,I was driving home one day and 1 block ahead of me was one of those trucks that spray tar on the road be for they asphalt it,,well my pristine GN was freaking covered....I used Mineral Spirits,I know you are going to say it removes paint but ,NO it removed all the tar and other junk on the car,,,was AWESOME stuff....try it on a small section that is undetectable, maybe the sap dripped down between the hood and fender ,try it there..or try to remove it from the glass and you will see....
good luck. then used a good wax,I used Zainos after that...

Hey Dennis, the exhaust is pretty sweet, nice rumble.
I'm going to update my single shot post with details.

I was looking at the autogeek sight and found out that
the clay bar stuff removes sap. I've got some of that clay
so I'm going to try it, in fact I'm going to do the whole car
before I put it in storage.

Thanks...
Mike

Any of these will remove sticky goo & road tar without harming CURED paint, but they also strip wax :

-- WD40
-- 3M Adhesive Remover
-- mineral spirits ("normal" paint thinner, not MEK or Toluene!)

I feel the first 2 work somewhat better ...

Test in a concealed location (eg, under door edge) "just in case".

easiest stuff to use is a product by PPG called DX103 we use it in the bodyshop I work at on cars all the time wont harm the clear coat at all and it takes the sap off almost instantly with no effort. If you know any auto supply stores near you that sell PPG paint products they should have dx103 its called multiprep on the bottle and trust me it works wonders. Will also take anything else off on your car its waterbased thats why it takes sap off so well.

I used a product called Goo-Gone once to remove duct tape sticky stuff from paint. It worked pretty well.

I've used a product called Bug and Tar Remover to take off tree sap and it worked ok. It's a petroleum based product.
