I just wanted to know how to turn up the boost on my 87' GN. And what is the stock psi that GNs use. Thanks

and by the way, when i punched it on the highway the other day, the psi went to 15psi on the stock meter. i also have a boost gauge that read 18psi when the pedal was floored, but the guy that had it before me put in a hyperchip.

you need to make a adjustable wastegate, you can buy one or look on gnttype.org and go to a hardware store for 5$ make your own. With pump gas and no alky your lucky to be getting 18 with no knock be carefull

One way of increasing boost is the chip and other is the adjustable wastgate actuator. I never heard Hypechip? Most vendors that burn or sell street chips usually have at least 16-18lbs of boost. And for the stock boost guage its around 1-2lbs off, stock boost settings are around 14lbs max.

I would look into a Thrasher chip ($25).

Unless you have a tool to measure knock you had better not mess with it at all. You are probably knocking now unless you have ported heads or a bigger IC

He's probably talking about a HyperTech chip. Memphis company that makes chips for just about everything. The owner used some GNs for testing on the local quarter. He also has 3 GNXs, two that are low miler, less than 100, garage kings.

Don't mess with the boost without a knock gauge or a scan tool. Its a quick way to blow up the motor.

Yes that was it, a Hypertech chip.

What do you guys think I should do. I want more performance but I dont want to take the chance of blowing my engine or harming anything else. What are the first mods that you guys have done that are the most important. Thanks

Don't turn up the boost at all until you have a new fuel pump, adjustable FP regulator, a scan tool and/or knock gage a good flowing exhaust, a cone air filter and you are absolutely sure the car is good working condition.

Be advised that you can't turn up the boost much before race gas or additives such a xylene or toluene need to be added.

To tell you the truth, I'm not even sure what mods are done to the car. I am the 3rd owner of the car, the first owner was a place called Larson Motor Center Inc., so they could have been the ones that put on a few mods. I just bought it from some guy who was selling it for some millionaire. I want to call either of them and ask what mods have been done. I know that it has line-locks, a shift kit, that Hypertech chip, and it had Chassis Engineering "Traklift Bars" in the truck, which i took out and put in my garage. other than that i dont know. He has oil, boost, water, and fuel pres. gages, so it kind of looks like it might have been previously raced.

get rid of that hyperjunk chip too and go with one that doesnt suck: Thrasher,Jim Testa, Joe Lubrant. Who knows what kinda timing or settings that generic catchall chip has set up inside.

Dan

yeah, i was thinking about junking that chip and buying a good name brand one that is the most popular. i should be getting a good exhaust system, the chip, and maybe an cold air intake within a month or so.
