Does anyone have a link to a good diagram or exploded view of this system? I developed a leak in mine some where up near the fire wall, it was drinking a bunch of power steering fluid. I have never had a problem before with this system and it will be the first thing I will have to rebuild in the spring.
Thanks
Mart

I had a leak at the firewall and tried to rebuild mine about 3 years ago.
You will see that there is a "swaged part" that can not be taken apart. Everything looked OK and I put it back in.
I ended up taking it back out a second time, and got one at O'Reily.
Haven't looked back since.

I guess I'll have to do the same old explaining what I need to the kids at the parts counter. Is this an easy job? I have never been up that far in a braking system. I'll do the proportioning valve at the same time,it looks bad.
Thanks

When you remove the hydro unit, you will not loose any brake fluid ( I am sure you know this). If you do not have any brake system issues, you may want to reconsider and leave it alone. You can flush the brake system, but not worry about bleeding it.

As far as the hydroboost unit;
The 4 nuts underneath the dash are a dandy :mad:
Best way is a long extension with a flex and deep socket and and/or a speed/ratchet wrench. (I was not going to do it a third time.)

I was under there trying to chase the leak and noticed that the rubber seal/cap was torn on that valve so I'll have to flush and bleed the whole system. I have NOT ever looked close at this unit yet, but I will use all your helpful hints.
Sounds like I should stay warm doing this. Better than getting under there in 90deg weather.

I second just replacing the hydroboost, you can get a remanufactured one with a lifetime warranty for around $150 after a core return. Got mine from Advance Auto in one day.
I just replaced my prop valve because my brake light was comming on for no reason. Make sure you get an AC Delco p/n 172-1353 it is the exact replacement and still available at dealerships. Also use flare nut wrenches on the fittings so not to round them off, they are all standard sizes.
