Well, the good news is that I passed my National EMT certification test! So, the first major step in becoming a paramedic-firefighter is done.

The bad news, is I was trying to get into the paramedic classes for the fall but because Florida adopted new testing standards I got screwed out of this medic class (long story). So, it looks like the next medic class is starting up in Janurary of '05, hopfully I can make it into that.

I am going to apply for fire academy which starts in September. I passed the agility test to get into it, so now I just got to cross my fingers and hope I get accepted.

If you get bored and you want to read about the agility test I had to take CPAT

It was really tough, by the end of it I was just going off motivation and was no longer actually thinking about what I was doing heh.

anyways, I just had to share.

Congrats Neil and I wish you the best of luck in getting accepted!!!:)

hey vendor

Congrats on passing your EMT skills test.

I'm a volunteer firefighter/ medical responder here in NC for about 6 yrs now. I have applied to some local big cities departments. I applied to High Point FD and had to take the agility CPAT test. It's a Bitch and i'm a little guy too(5'10 150 lbs) and i passed it just barely :). i didn't eat no breakfast that morning it was like 85 degrees that day when i got done with the dummy drag i just fell to the ground with no more in me.

hey are you just a EMT or a EMT-b or EMT-I

i'm thinking about bridging over to a EMT level myself. Even tho the state of NC recognizes a Medical responder as the same thing. we have the same guidlines so i don't understand why the state don't do away with the medical responder.

I'm also a NC cert level 1 and 2 Firefighter and nc cert hazmat tech

now all i need is 4 yrs of college to get my fire sciences degree.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

SloGN, sorry I don't come on here too often so forgive me for not getting back to you sooner.

I just finished the EMT-B section, Florida does not recognize the EMT-I. So, next step is the almighty EMT-P

You think your little? I am your height (somewhere between 5'10" and 6' I don't know exactly) and only like... 135lbs, 140 if I just ate. When I took the test it was at 0830 and I was number 2 to go. I did great all though the test but that damn dummy was harsh. It really slowed me down because I only did it with one hand, the glove on my right hand came half way off and I didn't want to stop and put it back on. If I were to do it again, I would have turned around and picked it up more and pulled with both hands. Whatever, water under the bridge now, I passed and thats all that counts.

I am also working on my EMS and Fire degrees, I got most of the EMS knocked out, but I have to finish with the paramedic school to get it. The fire degree is going to take a lot more work to get.

After a couple years I want to get on the SWAT team as the medic, but that is another story.
