Looking for a parts list to convert my 84 GN hot air car to the 86/87 ecm?

86/87 ECM
Chip that disables intake air temp sensor
Maf translator and LT1 or LS1 MAF.

I ordered a chip from turbotweak and requested it for a 86/87 ecm. Is that right so far?

if you ordered an 86-87 chip and didnt specify to turn off the IAT sensor flag you will need to install and pin in an iat sensor to pin C11 at the ecm or you will have a steady check engine light and a code 25 stored
not that the iat has much effect on fueling since it only adds fuel when its really cold out (like freezing) . with no sensor the chip will default the IAT value to 70 degrees so it wont effect how it runs

the bigger issue is if he builds a chip for an 86-7 intercooled those motors can run more timing and boost , you wont have the timing or fueling correct for a lower boost hot air engine

you will need an 86-87 MAF or translator setup

i'm running an 87 ecm with a Turbotweak chip in my 84 with the stock maf and it runs great.. it runs smoother, makes more power, and gets better gas mileage than the stock 84 ecm did. i'm running a Hayden electric fan that the chip turns on at 170..
you also need a 160 thermostat- available from NAPA for not too many dollars.

Thanks guys should have all my tuning stuff in soon then I can order go fast parts

So the chip I ordered is the v 5.7 and it didn't ask for that but it did ask if for a 86/87 ecm.....now I'm thinking I wasted $100 on the chip......the chip is set up for basically stock with 1984 boost settings(11-14psi) and going to having 86/87 ecm

I m also am waiting on scanmaster and power logger

no brad you didn't waste any money, its a good decision to upgrade to the 86/87 ecm,lot more tuning capabilities and smoother running car, eric is a wiz at the chips, and just 1 peice of advice, before you start buying all the "the go fast parts" make sure you have the car running right ,or your really gonna feel like you wasted money when it pops;)

when you ordered the chip it asks to choose car with a drop down menu
did you check the "84/85 turbo buick with 86/87 ecm"

if you did and you are still hotair but just upgrading to an 87 ecm then youll get the correct chip for a hotair and it should have the IAT (some call it MAT) disabled and the proper timing/fueling and boost settings for a hotair
the chips are adjustable in that yu can add WOT fuel and adjust WOT timing so if you decide to run more boost you can always bring the boost up and add fuel in the chip to cover the added boost , and timing can be brought up if you improve the air charge (intercooler or alky) or run better octane fuel

Yes i did i checked 84/85 turbo buick with 86/87 ecm :) So do I still need the translator and ls1 maf ?

Ya it runs really good and strong no lights are on. Just doing all the tuning stuff first.....didn't mean waste of money like that. Just didn't want to buy the wrong stuff that's all :p

I could sell you a 86/87 computer and lt1 mass for $100.00 shipped.

yes you need the translator /maf or a working 86-87 OE maf (BW sticker) or you could take the gamble on a cardone reman for 86-87 from local parts store
