No scanmaster. Is there a way to dail that thing in with the digital voltmeter? Thanks drew

Not really. I suppose someone that had lot's of time on their handls could take some readings on a well adjusted IAC system, but the differences in volt meters would render that point moot anyway.
You're looking at a constantly pulsed signal at varying frequency. Too difficult to do with a DVM.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not being flip but how does the scanmaster interperet the signal and turn that into a number? See, I have other types of meters so maybe like the tps can be adjusted with a DVM then maybe the IAC can be adjusted with a certain meter. Just thinking. Thanks again. Drew

Here's the procedure fron GNTTYPE. It's if you don't have a scan tool, don't know how accurate it, but here's the link. HTH

The scanmaster, like any scan tool just reads what is being sent to the ECM. The ECM feeds that pulsed signal to the IAC to control RPM. If the rpm is too high, it reduces the pulses (less air bleed-lower rpm) until the rpm falls to the desired rate, and vice versa.

Unfortunately, the procedure that 6pack refers to is a very old procedure that was around in the mid 80's. Worked moderately well for a bone stock unmodified car. There weren't any scan tools to speak of back then, so we were all flying by the seat of our pants. The problem is, if there is even the slightest modifcation done, or a chip other than the original stock chip, this procedure usually ends up causing a lot more problems than it solves. I always get chided for saying that, but I don't care. That procedure sucks in this day and age, and I'll stick by my guns. I have long since lost count of the number of cars I've had to re-adjust the IAC and TPS on for folks who've tried it.

GET A SCANMASTER!!!!!!!!!

The absolute best tool to have around for making these kind of adjustments (IAC, TPS, etc) is the scanmaster. Besides all the other advantages the scanmaster yields (always on, ready to go).

If you need more serious data at some point then there's always Direct Scan, or TurboLink.

But a Scanmaster should ALWAYS be the very first choice in additions to our cars.

Scanmaster, yes I know. The scanmaster picks up some sort of signal and turns it into readable data.It sounds as if it is more difficult than my question. Thanks for the input and dialoge. Drew
