Will an intercooled year chip fit into a hot air ecm? Or is the 86-87 chip physically different then the 84-85? I am trying to deal with someone and want to make sure his intercooled year chip will fit my ecm. If it does would I have to get it re-burned because mine is a hot air even though I'm going to be using the same injectors?

intercooled chips into hot air?

No. unles you have a car that has been converted over to 87 wireing harness and ecm
Before you put a chip in this car make sure your Fuel pump is Hot wired and in good shape,(if it is original) change it first to Walbro 340/307 and hot wire kit
Here are a couple of links

Actually I've already done tons of research on these. I've had the car for over a year now and it's all worked over. I am in the market for new injectors and posted that I needed injectors and a chip for my hot air. I got an email saying that he had a chip and 38's. I asked if the chip was for 84-85 or intercooled. He said it was for intercooled but it would fit. I knew it didn't fit but he told me that it did...so I told him I'm posting on here to verify (he didn't believe me  ) So that's all. Thanks for the reply.

Check on the hotair boards though. There is someone that can burn a good hotair chip from what I understand. Our ECM/Maf incompatabilites are what I think is the number 1 downfall of the hotair cars. Intercoolers are cheap and easy to add in my opinion.

One of my customers has an OE IC for sale

He went to a PTE FMIC. It has already had the big neck installed (Duttweiler I believe). I could find out what he wants for it.
