Intercooler design?? whats best???

I've been thinking of getting a bigger intercooler , I have a mustang (sorry) and space is ver limited in the front for a straight path of air my question is what design is better and why??

Tanks on top and bottom or tanks on sides, this is kinda tricky to expain so here are the 2 layout's i'm talking about

top and bottom
