just wanted to know if the vin is stamped on the eng. block?my old block was stamped, but i didnt know if this was a factory stamp.thanks in advance.

thats weird because my block had the vin stamped on the drivers side. you had to look very close, but it is there.i wonder how it got there, maybe the previous owner had it stamped.

Yes , the OE block's were stamped with the last part of the vin!!!

the replacement crate block had no #,s stamped in them

Chris

thanks for the info we4.i thought that was weird, but its stamped there clear as day and it matches the vin.

The last sixth digit's of the VIN are the sequence number. It's also on the transmission.

This is what the whole "number matching" stuff is all about. It was more important to MuslceCars, because the actual engine size/power couldn't be ID'd by the VIN. This helped prove a car really what it was and not a clone.

the eng. stamp is on the drivers side on the back of the motor.its stamped on a flat where the trans bolts to the eng.its hard to explain where, but you will need to clean it a little to see it but it is there.

On the Trans, I BELIEVE it is on the drivers side of the trans, right above where the trans pan bolts on. There's a small flange, about 1/2" or so...that is where it is stamped....towards the rear of the trans pan, drivers side. Pretty sure, it's been awhile.

im going to buy another gn and wanted to know if the motor and trans are right.the seller said it is the original, but i wanted to know for sure.

Transmission ID is as stated drivers side on a small boss just above the pan in the back 1/4 or so of the tranny.

Engine is very hard to find without a good light like a krypton bulb flashlight and a mirror and a cloth with gas or engine cleaner on it.

Remember the font size of the numbers here is about 8 engine and 10 tranny, real real small.

Vertically stamped on the engine boss faces the tranny. Very difficult to track down without a lift or jacked up a bit.

Previous answers were A-OK. :D

Deleted my previous post....

Oops! Sorry my bad!

I guess I still have A LOT to learn about these cars. Time for me to get out some degreaser and some brushes. :D
