I just dropped my pan because I am ready to drop my tranny to change the converter and I noticed at the bottom of the pan there was lots of black clutch material and also very fine metal particles on the magnet...my tranny was just rebuilt in August of last fall and I drove the car on the street from then until November and it's been sitting in storage ever since...

is this normal after a fresh rebuild? I would assume so because that how a motor works...you need to change the oil several times to get all the break-in material out...does the same apply to a tranny? This is the original fluid that I drained out from August...I used Valvoline Dexron III w/ Mercon per Vince Janis...I really hope this is normal otherwise I am gonna have to pay that guy another visit! at least the tranny is under warranty for a year...

I think that is it just breaking in..............clean it out and check again in a month or so
the new 4L80E's do that too, brand new, and have to pull the TISS and TOSS sensors to clean off metal so they will quit throwing codes until the trans break in and quit getting metal on the sensors

very good to hear...i figured trannys had a "break-in" process like a new motor does...when i drained the fluid out it was a perfect healthy looking red color just like when new and the metal particles i found in the filter and magnet were VERY fine particles, no chunks...quite a bit of black clutch material at the very bottom of the pan and around the magnet...not to mention i re-used my factory trans cooler in the radiator and i never exactly flushed it squeeky clean...just used an air compressor to blow out the lines...i think the tranny is fine...it was shifting IMMACULATE before I put the car away for storage over the winter...Janis did an awesome job
