OK how hard is it to tune in Alky and still have good driveability with out it. Spool quickly and get full boost?

I am planing on running the stock turbo between 20-22psi on Pump 93 from BP or 94 From Sunoco.

With this will be a set of larger injectors, probably Blue Tops, a Thrasher chip(maybe a custom one but seeing how I will always be adding to the car it will probably be a change once a month type deal) Usual INtake mods with Porting of the Intake manifole and "Dog house". 62MM TB and a DP with Dump.

I plan on hoioking this up with a set of Nittos to.
I am using turbo link to tune.

So what do you recomend, and how hard will it be to tune?

My goal is 12.0 and be able to drive it home without touching anything on stock cam/heads/turbo/intercooler.

I plan on modify the Turbine housing, exhaust neck, interccoler neck and so forth to.

Well, I was getting ready to say it would be very tough to hit 12.0 with the stock turbo, and then I saw it was a TTA.

When I was all stock, it took me 4 WOT blasts to get the SMC kit dialed in pretty good.

I was running stock turbo, intercooler, injectors, d5 etc. I hooked up the SMC (about 1-1.5 hour install) turned up the boost to 22psi and went for a blast with the 93 chip. It didn't seem to pull all that great, I was used to c116 with a 108 chip. I went back to the house installed the 108 chip and went back out for a blast. WoooHooo!!! Now thats what I'm talking about. I was able to run full race trim (race chip and timing, 22 psi) on 93 and alky.

I have since stepped up my combo and run a 100 chip at 24 lbs of boost with zero knock. With turbolink you should have no problem getting that thing to run!

Great, so you think my goal is realistic? Does the stock turbo run efficiently at 22psi?

Black/Kyle, I plan to do the EXACT thing with my GN. Once I get the laptop up, I'm buying turbolink, and hopefully scoring some bigger injectors from this site, with a 108 chip included.
So Black6Pack, you think the 108 chip is the way to go, or would you suggest the 100? I have a 93 in there now. Other mods (or lack thereof) are listed in the sig. I was HOPING for 12.0 at the track, with the same setup as "daily" driving, but would be more than happy with a 12.4 or so. Thanks for the tips!

Weazle,
I don't think you will get a 12.0 with the stock turbo and alky with a GN. You have most of the mods I had with the stock setup, and I was only able to run 12.7@ 105, but I didn't lock the converter and was only pulling 1.87 60' times.

Kyle,
The stock turbo is good to about 22psi, after that the extra amount of air is offset by the higher intake tempatures. I have been told, that with alky lowering the intake temps you may be able to get another pound or two of boost out of the stocker.

Black6Pack, thanks for CRUSHING my dreams! ;) Just kidding, I knew low 12s would be a stretch, my REAL goal is just to get her running as fast as she can on pump gas and stock turbo-intercooler...FOR NOW. I'd be more than happy with a 12.5. Since you had a similar setup that I was going for, what kinda chip would you suggest I go with. You said you're running 100 on 24 lbs of boost, is that on the stock turbo? I'm basically wondering if I should shoot for a 108, or look for something a little lower. Thanks!

As I said before, with the stocker limited to around 22psi I chose to go with a higher timing chip. A lot of people are running a lower timing chip and cranking the boost up to 25+ psi. Since the stocker is no good at that boost level, I would suggest a higher timing chip. The good thing about a "race chip" like a 108 is that is has the fuel curves set up for higher boost.

It is quite possible that you may get low 12s out of it on alky. I just got tired of pushing the stocker and only getting 105 mph out of it. I now have a pte 54, and with a bad exhaust leak and not a very good state of tune I was running 115mph at around 23 psi of boost on a 100 chip.

If I had locked the converter (maybe 2 tenths) and got better 60' times, I could have been in the 12.4 range pretty easily. I'm sure if you tweaked it even more (bellmouth the intercooler, smoothed out the intercooler pipes, etc.) you may get a couple more tenths out of it.

Thanks again Black, I should've read your post a little better. I wanna see how fast I can make this beast go on the stocker. I planned to bellmouth the intercooler, and will definitely clean it out this season. I'll keep the board informed! Turbo Link is on the way!
