I just received my initial oil report and I am interested in the pro's on this forum observations and/or comments. The engine on my car was rebuilt at 99,000 (before I owned it) and it has 137,812mi on it now. I had been using Mobil 1 5w30 up until the last two oil changes when I switched to Mobil 1 15w50 (4.5qt) and added 16oz EOS.

The report mentions possible antifreeze in the oil because of the high sodium content found, but it's not conclusive. There was no potassium found and apparently, if there was antifreeze in the oil both would be found in significant quatities. I've been using distilled water + RMI 25 and I can't help but wonder if perhaps RMI dosen't have potassium in it. I think I've read on here that when head gasket blows or leaks antifreeze gets into the oil so this has me a little worried.

The other interesting thing I found about the report is the significant drop in oil viscosity and flash point after only 1k miles (little hard driving and no track time). Is Mobil 1 all that its cracked up to be?

I just changed the oil with 15w50 and ZDDP+ and I'll get another analysis as soon as I put some miles on the car (which is a little difficult to do because I don't drive it all that much).

GM EOS has sodium in it from what I've read.

I believe there was an analysis over at Bob the Oil Guys website.

You probably have some gas in the oil as well as noted by the lab.

So do I on both cars, I still go to 3K and change it.

Not an expert here however. ;)

I am switching to Valvoline off road and/or VR1 oils street oils for one car.

The other car that needs synthetic I'm sticking to Mobil 1 or Valvoline and gonna try some STP additive and see if the double BB turbo burns it up in smoke or not when idling hot.

Leaky injs.
Poor ring seal.
Cold starts with less than 100% rise to operating temps. [Short drives?]
All could be contributing to hi level of gas in the oil.`

I always take my samples after a long drive of at least 30 minutes or more. This gets the fuel burnt out if it is coming from cold start ups and slow city driving which we all know is hard on engines. I would say bearing and block wear look great. Always list what you add to the oil on the form to help them with the report. I am now running Schaeffers Syn in my truck and we may run it in the Buick when we get it back together. I have been getting great reports back on my samples from Blackstone with it.

Cold starts with less than 100% rise to operating temps...that's me. Moving the car in and out of the garage.

I just learned that that can kill an exhaust system because of the water vaopr that stays in the system (one of the many things I learned at Kirban's get-together two weeks ago). Didn't know it can cause a gas in oil problem too. Guess I'll be pushing the car around more than I thought.

For those who view this thread and want to know how to read the report report go here Blackstone Laboratories - Report Explanation

Any thoughts on the loss of viscosity so quickly (<1k miles)?
