knock at start up

i notice when i start the car and the starter drags the slightist bit or cranks a couple of times i get knock as soon as the car turns over. if the car starts up on the first rotation thetre is no knock at all . could this mean the timing is off also when ther is no knock and iaccellarate each shift the knock gets higher again is this all related to the timing? thanks for any info

Here is one thought: A loose torque converter can sound like a knock. Remove the inspection cover and check the torque converter bolts for proper tightness.

fwiw,my knock gauge lights up like christmas every time i start my car.i don't worry about it.lets me know the gauge is working.

My ANS knock gauge goes off every single time I start the car, no matter how long I have to crank it. Keep in mind, everybody's car is different. What's goes for mine won't necessarily go for yours.

Check to make sure the starter is bolted down tight and your torque converter bolts are tight and you should be fine.

im gonna look into the convertor bolts the starter is new the new starter actually helped the problem had zero knock on start up the first week or so then slowly it came back at start up .
