Hi all
I'm done with my engine and trans rebuild, so I rolled the car out and was going to detail the engine bay a bit. Looking around at all the wires when I realizied I do not see a sensor end for the knock gauge! I do see a stripped black wire on the branct that goes to the trans and IAC. Could this be the wire? Might I have disconnected it for the Casper's gauge? It was a long time ago, and I am very old now!
These questions might get more frequent as I go along. Thanks for ANY help I can glean from you folks.

I recently installed a Caspers knock gauge and it ties in at the ECM at a yellow wire with a black stripe. I can send a copy of the instructions if you need them. Brad

wiring engine bay knock sensor

Hey Brad
I do want to thank you for the help. I cannot find my instruction at this time so that would be a great help.
Did you have to disconnect the wiring to the sensor mounted to the engine? That seems odd to me. I cannot even find the pig-tail in the engine bay?? Maybe I did disconnect it. This is going to be a fresh install--new everything. I'm trying to get the thing assembled right the first time so that it fires right up.

Martin,
The car will start with the knock sensor (refering to your previous comment). I am not sure however if it will throw a code but confident you do want the sensor installed for all the right reasons.

Your Knock guage will not work however with a disconnected knock sensor. Was the connector on the car when you pulled the motor?

That is what I cannot remember. It must have been, it was running when I pulled it.
I could have missed it removing the engine and ripped it off. What colors are the wires going to the sensor on the ENGINE? I would not even think of running with out it.

Ok ……….. Just went out and looked at the wire to the knock senor connector. Did you clean the wire to ensure the color? You stated it to be black (Read on)

To make sure we are talking about the correct wire . ………..
Take a look at the snake coming form the firewall that splits into the IAC, EGR solenoid, TPS wire. Out of the same snake is a single wire - the Knock sensor wire. It is dark blue.

If you do not see this wire, you may be looking at the wrong wire.
The connector end (it is hard to miss) may have broken off and the “dark blue” wire may have “slipped” back into the snake. Either way, you can try Caspers for a connector replacement. See link below.

Brad, I will use this info to double check my install. Mine is MIA since my daughter moved back in.
Jerry that's the one. It turned blue after hitting it with cleaner. It is also the one that is stripped. i must have missed it when I pulled engine. I will get a new end from caspers
Also as long as I am ordering from him what do you guys recomend for the crank sensor and bracket? My originals are in fine shape right now, but should I upgradeto the 87 now or wait?

My buddy told me after looking at a wiring job I did in the garage that I could machine anything he owns, but I was to NEVER touch any wires ever again???
Thanks,
Mart

Funny!

Glad you found the wire. The crank sensor is the same as for Hot air and IC cars and they work pretty wel.
