I put the powerplate in and I get about the same knock as before. It really gets bad when it shifts. I think the reason is because I have a 97 octane chip in it but I am running alcohol. I have the BGC kit, I am thinking of getting an SMC kit but don't have the money now. Need some suggestions

Thanks

What FP and boost levels are you running when you get the knock? Most folks (including me, but without alcohol) experience less knock at a given level of boost. Also, whose chip is in it? Seems sort of wierd to have a 97 octane chip.

It is a thrasher chip that is mostly made by request. I was told it is for running alky. It varies but sometimes is as low as 15 psi. I was thinking that it may be a rich knock because of the alcohol, but I turned the alcohol off and it got a little better but not much cuz I still had the 97 octane chip in it. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

False knock?

You could have a false knock condition. Make sure the downpipe is not hitting the frame or any of the brackets on the engine are rattling anywere. Are you running a tie down strap? Lots of things can cause false knock. This may not be the problem but I would check.

If it is knocking when it shifts it is most likely false knock. That chip does not have enough timing to cause transitional knock. I am running a Thrasher 108 and do not get knock until I run out of fuel. If you already have alky it must not be set up right. Switching to SMC isnt going to help. The only thing better about SMC is its easy to tune.

Hrrm... "Thrasher" for "alky" ? You sure about that? Or is it a Thrasher97 that "should work" with alky?

Shawn

probably not the plate

I put the power plate on my GN and now I can go up to 19 psi before I get any knock. Even then it is less than 4 degrees.

My car has never run as strong as it does with the plate. I would look at something else.

It is a thrasher 97 that should work with alky. What exactly should I tune for with the alky?? I'm still kinda new to all of this and need some help. I have a knock gage and it lights up a little but is still green but then it shoots up when it starts to shift. Is this false knock like the one that occurs when doing a burnout?? Thanks

Everyone always looks at the DP and motor mounts first. If it is false knock something is hitting when the engine "torque twists" on the shifts.

Do you always get KR when you do a burnout also?

I dont see any numbers. Do u have a scantool? Maybe give some O2 readings at WOT , what boost are u running with and without the alky, whats your FP, what kind of injectors.

Dan

Stock injectors, about 20 pounds of boost, 45psi fuel pressure line off (Thrasher says to set it here). Would a cracked header cause this problem?? Not sure if mine is but sounds like there may be a little leak either in the header or the crossover pipe. No Scan tool til this weekend

what kinda gas are u using. Have u tried putting some 100octane or the like in there and see if your knock goes away?
