In some southern states, you would go *if the circumstances are urgent* and get a TRO Temporary Restraining order.. Usually for domestic parters that are abusive.. For a longer term ie: 1 year you would need to file it down at the courthouse to be heard by a judge to show fact in the issues. Then like the michigan deal a sheriff would issue it to the receiving person and then the offender or the defendant cannot violate it while it is in effect..
