Does the small L-shaped bracket that runs from the back of the A/C compressor to the lower header stud actually provide any structural support? My understanding is that is actually the ground for the A/C compressor. I have since installed a bypass pulley and my headers are off at the moment. I just don't feel like re-installing it if it doesn't have a purpose now.

That bracket supports the back of the accessory bracket. You don't have to put it on but I would.

+1 - It takes zero effort to re-install it, can't see any reason not to....
