I've noticed 91 is generally as good as the octane gets here.
This is not helping me tune the 87 TT. Can't tell real gremlins from crappy gas gremlins. Car previously had a midWest diet of 93 or 94. New chip is designed for 93.

I'm in Torrance, anywhere have decent unleaded gas (>93 octane)?

I know, rocket fuel time, thats likely the next step. Already printed out the info on gnttype
Anyone here have a recommendation based on using 91 as a base?

Thanks

Ken

The only better thing form the pump out here is Unocal 100. Check the Unocal website for locations that have 100 at the pump. The best bet is to invest in either an alky kit, or a Propain kit.

Other than that, you are stuck with the 91. Ain't Cali grand?:)

Do a search. about 2 or 3 months ago, somebody, I believe, Racer X, posted a response lising all of the stations and what gas types and octane levels/ratings they had available. It was a very extensive list. It was posted on turbobuick under turbolounge or the southwestern area. HTH. TRy So-Cal racing fuels right off the 605.

Oops should have searched

Thanks for not completely beating me over the head with that little function

FYI
Osborn's 76 in Redondo is longer a gas station, already called them as they were a half mile from my house.

They've moved up the street (PCH at Ave B) and are a VP dealer. $40 for 5 gal of 100, $45 for 5 gal of 103, with can.

Added bonus is El Burrito Jr. is next store, best cheap burritos you will ever find. Likely to help with gas injection.

I'll have to check Bellflower 76 as that isn't so far and sometimes I go up to Paramount and the 91 on business.

Thanks for all your help

[/QUOTE Sometime ago Kevin Mantanovith on this forum steered me toward SMC alcohol injectors. This is the best answer to the problem & it works. I've been able to put timeing & boost back into the tune up with great results.I have probably installed ten units now with no problems.

Did the price include a deposit on the can?

I think this is the one across the street from Team C

:)

Can deposit

Not sure.

I asked if it was bring your own can, and was told the can was included.
I didn't ask 'bout deposit, so I wouldn't want to assume. But dang at $8/gal they should through in the can.

Later

Unless the car is daily driven I don't know why anyone wants to mess with pump gas or the low grade 100 octane unleaded racing junk at all (which by the way costs just as much as the higher octane leaded race gas). If the car is daily driven go with the alky injection. If not, then run leaded race fuel. With 91 octane swill being over 2 bucks a gallon now, 114 race fuel at 5 bucks a gallon doesn't sound so bad.

Leaded gas, cat, and emissions check

How are you all passing CA emissions?

If leaded race gas, no cat. Or cat only for emissions test.
That and the visual check.

My need initially for the unleaded is sorting the car out. Then I'll worry 'bout higher octane. Think the cat on my car is gutted anyway, but I haven't checked it for myself.

Thanks all for your help

I am one of the 10 that Lou has done. I really see no down side to it. In fact in the near future I plan on having my other Buick done as well. It really makes a huge difference in performance. I also like the fact that it provides a "safety blanket".
As far a smog goes with alky I have been told that if you fill the bottle with 100% water they will not fail the car. Water injection seems to be approved for use here.

alky is likely in the future, and todays gas prices

Went to Bellflower 76 about 1 hour ago

101 unleaded 6.50 gal
105 unleaded 6.50 gal

111 leaded 7.50 gal
113 leaded 7.50 gal

Leaded sold by the 5 gal can, and a "Can fee" of $5 seems to apply as the total charge is 42.50.

Without scan tool, seat of the pants, a 2 :1 blend helped me a lot in terms of knock. I can still hear it at max boost (16-17 psi), but less severe and at starts at max, on 91 it was knocking at 13 psi . Must confirm what boost level is set at, as its adjustable, and I have never adjusted it.

Again thanks all

I buy in 55 gallon drums. The 110 comes out to about $4.50 per gallon. I sell it for $5.50 per gallon. But I have not sold much. No one wants to run race gas. Oh well...

Do you have a Power Plate? It was the best investment that I bought for the car now that Cali has 91 octane. I was able to run 18 psig on the stock turbo with very little to no knock. This was on a 19 degree Jay Carter Street chip.

I can get upwards of 19 with the CPT-65 that I run now.

Sure I have a power plate...

Sitting in a box next to the car!

Is installation as simple as it looks?

Doggon' typo on the instructions calling for a friggin 3/4" hole.
Not so easy to find a bit that I don't even need (EGR function not supported by chip, other than it only needs to be 3/8")

Probably weekend after next. First is the knock gauge.

Thanks

The downside is that you will never make as much power on alcohol and 91 octane as you will on race fuel. With no ill effects I run a Max Effort chip on the street with 23 psi and 26 degrees timing on 114 octane with no knock. Now that is fun. :D I could probably run 25 psi if I really wanted to push things.

I challenge anyone to try and run that kind of boost and timing on alcohol and pump junk. Alcohol and 91 octane is only around the equivalent of 100 octane,......not exactly race fuel by any measure. Like I said before if it's a daily driven car where you have to get some mileage then I can understand the alcohol angle.

I guess there's one good thing to living in S. Riverside county

Downs Oil

110 leaded is $4.30
112 leaded is $5.30

All at the pump (fish bowl funnel not included) ;)

Cable Airport (Upland)-at the pump. $2.30 100 low lead. Worx for me up to 23psi!!:)

Scott:
That being low lead, do you know if that gas can be run in a stock gn, or would it still fry the sensor/sensors?
