Ok, thought it was the idle air control valve (went by a diagram on the Gnttype page) but it is not. Here's a picture of it.

It's at the end of that green wire. I'm thinking knock sensor? Either way, the top part of it has snapped off, not sure if its even functioning so I'd like to replace it... Just need to know what it is. That valve on the right of it *I believe* is for the fuel rail.

Should control when you fan comes on amongst other things...
 
That particular sensor is a coolant temp switch (not a sensor so-to-speak). It's only function is to kick the fan on HIGH when the coolant hits just over 210º
 
Thanks for the help, gonna order a new one at Napa tomorrow. Weird thing is the fans still kicked on once the engine ran for a few minutes (with that wire disconnected)....

Like Dave said, that sensor only controls high speed fan when it is running really hot. The fan is also controlled by the ECM. It should still run with that sensor broken. Sounds like everything else is working fine.
