looking for opinions

I have a turbo 400 with brake , the vehicle it was in would not shift , put in neutral and push the brake button and it would back up , first gear was also fine , could not feel it shift into 2nd or 3rd , removed the transmission and im not real familuar with a reverse manual valve body and brake so i checked the normal things , sprag is fine rotates freely clockwise locks the other , air tests good 2nd sealing ring on support removed and middle seal on direct removed a one sixteenth hole drilled in direct drum , the only valve in the valve body that moves is the 1-2 shift valve , no check balls , and a silver seperator plate with no gaskets , gm valve body , any help would be appreciated on where to look for a problem or who to call for some information. thanks in advance
