I just bought a Maf sensor from NAPA part #2-17851. I Need to know if this is the right sensor because they thought a Grand national was a Caddy!

Chances are slim to none, that you got a good one, or with proper calibration.

The last time I bought one from NAPA, it was so far out of calibration, the car would barely run. Eyes watering, etc.

I wont give you the big long speach about why a Translator should be your next logical choice. It seems that the more folks get "bit" by the reman's the more they see the reality of what's going on out there.

Ok i will return the remanufatured unit tomorrow. Does anyone know where i can get an affordable or used translater plus and 3" maf.

I sent you a PM

If the NAPA one is the Echlin one it may work fine.

I will go out and check my spare one for numbers. See if yours says Echlin on it anywhere. :)

Mine had a cheesy plastic housing with wrong facing connector but the car actually ran okay with it.

I did however go to the translator to replace it. And GM stock one on the other car.

I use an echlin...works fine. Seems that it is hit or miss on getting a good one.

That is the number that is on mine. Worked a lot better than the week I drove with mine uplugged in the car. ;)

Should get you around for a while until you can find a stocker or buy a translator.

If you can return it used I'd try it out to see how you like it.

Just my .02 on that Echlin part.

Well Turbo Dave i hate to say it ;) but your right again. I put on the maf from napa , (its not echlin its dana, dont ask) the car could barely keep its idle and more black smoke came out that exhaust than a Kenworth semi. It seems like I'm going to look for a stock maf and use that for a while until i can raise the funds for a translator + and a 3.5 maf.

Rob sent you an email, salvagev6 it wasnt an echlin it was a Dana by independance. Thanks all

where do you get these translators and what maf do you use someone said 3 and someone else says 3.5 whats the difference sorry for all the questions.

thanks

That's the route I'm going now. BTW, what are your base timing settings on your extender chip? Do you think it's better to get a low timing chip that you can turn up with the translator, middle of the road chip you can move around, high timing chip to turn down, or does it matter?

Rick usually someone on the board has a translater a couple of $'s cheaper than a new one from ramcharger or Kirban. The 3 and the 3.5 inch are the sizes that maf (Lt1 also known as impala ss maf) come in.

Get the GM part no. you need, then go to GM parts direct .com, the 3 1/2 inch is 105 bucks plus 7.50 shipping, regular GM dealers want 215.00 for it. part no. for the 3 1/2 inch is 25179711.
I just ordered one, good luck.
