I was just wondering, i see alot of people on here with those huge MAF sensors, and they seem to be the same as the ones i see on some vortec chevy engines. I know they are said to help with tuning, but can you use one of a chevy, plug it in and go, or you got to buy that box i see sometimes???

You need a Translator. A device that translates the signal the chevy maf produces into a signal the buick ecm can understand.

ok, can you get the sensor off the chevy, and get the translator, and how much they cost, also are they worth the effort???

Everything you need can be gotten here:

FULL THROTTLE SPEED - Store Front Page

Is it worth the effort? Depends on your needs/desires/etc. Will the car run better? 90% of those that switched would say yes. Better flow, more tuneability, etc.

You see alot of people running these (huge chevy) mafs with translators not only for better flow and tuneability, but because the rebuilt stock mafs are a crap shoot to get a properly calibrated one, most stock rebuilts are horrible! Better off buying the translator and 3" Impala or the 3.5" LS1 maf.The 3" maf will work with the stock hose or pipe, the 3.5" maf will require a hose adapter.

Now that is true, i know i have had to return 3 to local parts store, so if i got one do i have to get a diffrent scan tool, or i can keep my Scan 2.1?

You'll be fine with the scanmaster 2.1 with the maf upgrade, Just plug maf and translator together and set dip switches on translator to proper settings.Disconnect orange wire first to clear memory.

the LS1 maf and regular translator are a excellent proven combo that works great and takes about 5mins to install

What year and model Chevys do you get the MAF sensors off, i was planning on getting one from the pullapart.

I too went that route, back when it was a relatively new concept. I went with the Translator Plus, with the LS1 MAF. I got sick of trying to find a good stock MAF, they really are hard to find, and even if you find a good one, you don't know how long it will stay that way. Just from a drivability standpoint, I was using my T for a daily for awhile, so I swapped out the stock system just for reliability sake. Yes you need an adaptor for the LS1 MAF, however, my particular CAI used reducers to couple to the smaller factory MAF, so I took out the reducers, and voila, perfect fit, no adapting needed.

So is the 3" or 3.5" better? I bought an Impala sensor a few months ago. Just got around to getting a CAI. I still need to buy a translator. I can still swap my Impala sensor out for a different size since I have not installed it yet. I want to do it right the first time.
