not to sure, but i think if you run the 85 maf with the 87 ecm you need to have a chip made for this set up, so i would think that you have some kind of problem running the 87 maf with the 85 ecm, maybe a rich or lean problem.

I ran an 87 Maf with my 85 ECM, when my 87 ECM went bad( until i got a new one) for about two weeks. It seemed to run leaner, I got spark knock at about 12 lbs and there was a small stumble at about 1/4 throttle. Other than that I could drive it. Dont know if this helps, but Yes it will work, but not properly. From what I understand they are calibrated differently.

You don't need a special chip to work with the 85 MAF/87 ecm setup. I have the stock 85 MAF, 87 computer, and a regular, everyday, buy it for $25 Thrasher chip for an 87 with Blue Tops. No special burning done. I just ran a 2200 ohm resistor in where the MAT would be to ground and left it at that. It works great. No drivability in winter or summer extremes.

I know mine ran rich with the 84 MAF and 87 computer. My car also pegged the 84 MAF at about 8psi where it took 12psi to peg the 87 one so they are definately calibrated different. If you just want to drive it temporarily, it should get you to work and back but it will never be just right.

My 85 MAF went bad and I was planning to convert to a 87 computer. I put my 87 MAF on and I have not had any problems (in 3 years). I have my 87 computer on my work bench waiting to go in. Just my .02:D
