Manual 1st gear selection question

I recently picked up a T type that has several mods done to it:

55 lb injectors
PT54 Precision turbo
TH downpipe
Turbo saver oil filter relocation kit
Champion ported irons
Accufab throttle body
duals with Flowmasters
Definately around a 3K stall
And I am sure a few others...

The tranny has an oversized pan with cooling tubes built into it and shifts nice and solid.

I went into 1st manually yesterday to run the boost up and break the tires loose, and the car would go nowhere. It was locked in place. If I am in 2nd, D or OD, I begin in 1st and go through every gear to the specific gear that I am in.

One person that that I had asked about this, believes I have a trans brake in the tranny, that when in 1st - the tranny goes into 1st and reverse to hold until it is slammed into 2nd.

Could someone help me identify if this is true? I want to make sure that I am not about to bust something up.

Seems like you have a manual transbrake. The tranny I just put in "had" it, but I knew this before buying it.

I believe that is what it sounds like I have.

I have been reading some poats about them. Some like them and others do not. I will read and investigate more, but I guess they are designed to hold in first after staging, get the boost up after both cars are staged, and launch by shifting out of first.

How do these trannies work with respect to shift points? Do I need to quickly get into D or OD to keep from too quick of a shift into 2nd? I am wondering how time consistancy is with this system.

The shift points will be whatever the transmission builder has set them at. The transbrake has nothing to do with shift points. The transmission and the rest of the driveline has to be built to withstand the "shock" of a transbrake. Brian Hofer would be a good resource to tell you what parts in the transmission that need to be "beefed" up.
