Okay, I know it has probably been asked before but I can not find it. If I wanted to mix e85 and 91 50/50 is there any upgrades that needs to be done i.e. an e85 chip?? I have 30lb injectors, stock turbo and long block. Just looking for more power...

Ed,

I have been looking at converting my car over to E85 and have already begun to order parts. It is basically one or the other. Since E85 burns faster, it also requires that you have bigger injectors. All you need is bigger injectors, a pump, and chip; will run through factory setup. Now if you would change your ECM to and after market then you could install a flex fuel sensor to help monitor the mixture of E85/91 OCTANE. A couple of guys that hang with Lonnie Dyers are running E85 and I have talked to he about it as well. Try to get in contact with TurboLoyd (Brookfield, IL) and Kevin B (Bright, Indiana). He has been running E85 for few years now and can guide you. Take a look at this posting.
(Fullthrottle and TurboTweak both burn chips for E85)....

I need to make a little correcting. It is not advised to mix because you don't know what the octane is. Roughly E85 is 114-116 octance. Mixing with gas will give you something like a 102 octane at 50/50 mix. Bettor off buying 104 at the gas station. Then I have read guys that mixing also helps in colder climates. I would be safe and do the injector way or GAS/ALKY. That is my opinion. Let me know what your thoughts are.....

I've been mixing 5 gallons of E85 and about 6.5 gallons of 93 for months now on my daily driven Talon. Here is a nice link to some info, insert 110 octane for E85 and take into account what Month it is and where you live so you know if you're on E85 blend 1 or 3 etc. All this does is change the potential octane and slightly alter the AF/R.
Miles Per Dollar Calculator

It's easy for me, dump in a 5 gallon jug of E85 and then fill up = Blend is consistent in this aspect.

I added 8psi of fuel pressure (up to 44psi line off) and that helped a lot. I also have a Translator so that made it easier to dial in the Idle, 3-8psi and WOT AF/R. I use the Scanmaster to see how things are reading and it's been great.

For the GN I'd run 10 gallons of E85 and the rest 91 Octane. This way you can get two 5 gallon jugs and bring them home after the fill up at the station.

I'd consider contacting Eric for a blended chip, then with Fuel Pressure and a Translator should be all you'd need to tweak things. Wideband would be nice since this time of year will yield the closest blend of 85% Ethanol, from here you'll only get richer as the blend changes and lose some Octane.

Don't tune this to the edge of detonation, not wise.

FWIW, I not only blend E85 with 93 Octane, but run Meth Injection on top of this, fun.

Clint thanks for all the info. I was reading some post about mixing E85 with 91 to increase the octane. I was not really looking for 25+ pounds of boost just maybe 18 on the street. Around here I can not get 104 at the pump unless I drive to 28 and 67 by the track. It was just a thought. i am planning on getting alky in the future. Maybe this winter I will make the switch. GNVYUS 1 again thank you for the input. I was looking at e85 for maybe a home brew octane booster.
