This is going to be long
I've posted a few times recently about having problems with my 2004r trans and Art Carr 9" N/L converter. I was turning way too much RPM for the MPH I was running (5200 to run 90 in the 1/8 in 3rd)
After some discussion with Bruce on IRC Chat we thought it might be that I was driving through the converter. I pulled the pan, the fluid looked good, not burnt, nothing in the pan except a little clutch matieral.
Trying to save some money I took the converter back to The Real Art Carr to be gone through since they are about 15min from me, and said the normal rebuild was $150. Not having the cash to put into a 9x11 that I wanted to I thought that this would be a viable alternative.
When the converter was tore down everything inside looked fine, except for the hub, it had a hairline crack in it. They replaced the hub, bearings, etc, and I had them tighten up the converter. Its now a 19930-Q (as tight as it goes) and my wallet is $250 lighter.
I put the converter and trans back in the car. After filling it up with fluid I started it up and put it into reverse. It took a few seconds to engage. After checking the fluid level I added 2qt and now it engages right away. I go for a road test and the car feels ok at light throttle, but in OD I only counted 3 shifts to 65mph. UHOH... I tried the car in D... 3rd gear was fine, I slowed and dropped it into 2 and it freewheeld... NOT GOOD in 1 it seems fine. So now I have 1st, 3rd and OD. If I rev it up in 2nd it will acclerate a little.
Some how I messed up the transmission
I was browsing through Transmission Talk and found mention of front pump problems with cracked hubs.
Could there possibly be a correlation from my original problem and a front pump problem?
I know when this trans was done for the 2nd time (15K miles back) the guy who built it put in a new 10 vein pump to replace the other pump that some how got shattered (in like 6 pieces) while the tranny was under warrenty. I rember going by the shop and looking at the parts in a box. He couldnt explain how it happened.
sorry if this doesnt make sense. Its late and i'm tired
