I had to buy a new battery for my older motorcycle.

I never realized that you have to add the acid into the battery..

Guy told me it would self charge but instructions say to charge it.
WHO IS RIGHT?

Charge it. You "could" do damage the the alternator by letting bike charge a dead battery.

Bet you bought it at Wal-mart and a 18 year old said that you could let bike charge it. Just picking.

Very Close an 18 yrold at VIP auto parts store.

Will Charge it with trickle charger.. Thanks

Fill with acid to the "high" line.. Trickle charge at 2 amps for 2-3 hrs.. After trickle charging, top off acid to "high" line if the level has reduced any..

Goodluck.. and BE CAREFUL with the acid...

My '82 Suzuki Katana is hard to start in the cold, so I did a lot of battery-killing last November and December. Killed it one morning trying to start it while at work. At lunch I got a jumpstart and decided to spend the half-hour riding (since it was a tropical 40 degrees and sunny!) Parked it after half an hour of easyish riding. Went to start it 4 hours later, not enough juice to start it. I had to jump it again (pain since I was working later than most).
Better safe than sorry. I would charge it. They'll charge fast, the 3 hours on 2 amps sounds right, that's what mine takes from being totally dead.
