My heater control vale in the engine is ugly

It has rusted and the gold color turned whitish after. Will a new stock replacement last long or will it turn ugly as well?? or should I paint it?? What you guys been doing??

Paint it i believe newer ones are plastic

If your talking about the Heater valve you can still get them new from GM. Makes a hell of a differance once you replace them.
Most originals that I have replaced have been rotted inside.

My car had the plastic one on it when I got it. Surprised it hasn't broke yet. They're cheap to replace though

replace with oem style. I did mine years ago. No discoloration. No issues.
