Alright after comin back from the track disappointed cuz the car wouldnt 60 ft, I figured I'd burn out all the race gas before turnin down the boost and playin around with the dfi. Anyway I stopped by my buddies at the chevy dealership and the word got around that my turbo powered cutlass wasnt to impressive in E.T. One of the main ball busters starts in, and I quickly fired back, "If u aint got the nads to run it right now, shut ur trap!?" He holds his hands up and says "Lets Go". The problem now is that he was fixing a trim piece on an 03 Z06 corvette . 2 minutes later where on Irving Park Rd. in Chicago west bound from Central Ave. at about 12:30 in the afternoon. Just as luck would have it grandma is in the left lane so I tell him to take the right lane and leave on the light without the traction control and ill line up behind him and chase. Light goes green and he takes off, I walked it out and nailed it 23 pounds of boost and I almost bumped that vette in the rear, I let off just a lil jumped in the left lane and pulled right up door to door. You should of seen the look on his face! (hehe) We went a lil over 2 blocks like that side by side and when we pulled back to the dealership he had only nice things to say about the raggedy olds that ran with chevrolets Big dog at the time. Respect is earned. TA49, 36#injectors, DFI, plus purchase price of the car $4,000.00...The look on my buddys face after the race....Priceless:)

nice kind of kill. i say kind of because you would have killed him if you werent about to ram his bumper. what are your times?

times are as follows

13.2 at 103.6 with a 2.3 60 ft. about 21 #lbs of boost. was the best,(bad torque converter)way too tight...leavin at 1 # of boost.

You're hanging with Z06's with a 103-104 mph trap speed

I'm assuming your car is running better then when you ran that 13.2 or else that Z06 owner couldn't drive.

I ran my future son-in-laws 2003 Z06 at Quaker City Drag Strip in Salem , Ohio last year 5 times. I beat him 3 out of 5. The 2 times I lost I had trouble with the alternator wire coming off. With regular (not drag) street radials and 93 octain I was running 12.60's to 12.80's at 107. he ran a best of 12.71 at 114! If you look at the video's of the runs, it looks like both cars are dead even going down the track. I have driven the Z06 several times and it feels faster than my GN powered MonteSS, probably because of the standard transmission. I would love to have one! I have driven most of the old muscle cars including my brother-in -laws frame off 70 Chevelle 454 LS5 4 speed and a 455 Stage 1. None of them compared to the Z06 in power!

Hey Rabbit,

I got the same problem in my GN, 12.8 @ 112 2.45 60ft was the best I could do. Traction owned me, bad torque converter, street tires, etc.

What I didn't expect is that my #5 intake lobe was gone on my cam...LOL

Get some real tires and a converter and that thng will 60ft a lot better.

Good story :D

Bruce,

You beat me to it. I was thinking the same thing

Of course he was racing a customers car that is why i will not take my car in and rather have it towed to my house before i let some numb nuts horse beat my car

Ive read a few stories on this board were a guy takes his car in and gets it back blown..... and he has to fit the bill

Those 6 speed cars always feel faster than a similarly quick GN (albeit in a MonteSS package). Many moons ago, my friends high 13 sec. GT felt like an 11 sec. car when he was powershifting and I was sitting in the back seat close to the axle.

Your ETs were certainly close enough to make it a good race against a Z06, but 13.2s and 103 trap speeds normally won't get it done against any Z06s. On fairly equal tires, a 10 mph trap speed difference is pretty substantial.

"Feel" , ia very deceptive. My GTO with 2 passengers just held its own with a zo6. This was on a hiway romp form 65 mph...so I would have pulled him on a drag race. (GTO at 472 ft lbs would have been able to out crank him alittle of the line). But, a corvette will always feel faster. It has to do with the seats, and the lower stance. Mid 80's CamBirds also have this great feel. The slowest feel I have ever encountered? My GTO . The seats are too upright, and the hood is the size of a ford focus. When I race something fast, Im always amazed how well I do, because it seems just kinda sorta fast. But the speedo, and receding traffic tel the story.

when this happened

I'm tryin to remember exactly, but it was sometime around September, maybe August, I know it was the Monday after the last "Chicago Gear Head " race at the grove. And to respond to the other comment---yeah ur right the driver of the z06, my buddy is really not the best driver.:)
