I've used Top Engine Cleaner from GM before on my TBI truck & my 87 carburated Cutlass Supreme and it got the job done. A hell of a lot of smoke when you do it but is normal.
I've used the Seafoam in the same way as GM's top end cleaner. Makes a lot of smoke, too. You can use it to see if your d/s header is cracked while you clean.
Last month I put some in and found my header cracked. I replaced the header and tried some more Seafoam to verify that I had no leaks at the header, but now my top end was already clean so not enough smoke to tell
