Hi, everyone, I'm trying to replace the alternator on my 87 GN, but I'm having trouble. I've never replaced an alternator on a Serpantine Belt before, I can't figure it out. I have to get the GN running by tomorrow. If anyone can help me, please call my cell 252-205-3381

Just use a long screwdriver or a crow bar to pry on the tensioner to create some slack in the belt, then you can pop it off the alt

18mm box wrench on the tensioner pulley nut and it will loosen tension on the belt.

Just slip it off and don't move it off the pulleys and other accessories and you will be fine.

Put it back on the same way by releasing tension at the tensioner. :)

18mm Combination Wrench

Shane,

Use closed end of 18mm combination wrench on tensioner bolt. Easiest fastest way to remove tension on the belt.
