i just got another maf sensor used factory one and my car is still doing the samething it idles GREAT for about 10 min then it starts spittin and spuddering i changed the plugs and they were all black carbon up from the first time this happen well any way i have another maf sensor on it's way it's like that the regulator is hanging up or a injector but the injectors are brand new but the regulator is about 8 years old i have my fuel preasure at 43 pounds thanks Rob

How's the ignition holding up?Try an inductive timing light on a couple of wires and see if they're still sparking consistantly when this happens.Charging system holding up okay? Those are the two that come to my mind off the top of my noggin'.

i'll try that in the moring with the timing light so you think that my coil pack might be going out if that is the case i have another one

I would tend to think if it's happening after ten minutes or so that it might be the ignition module.Just a guess. However a weak charging system could make it bugger up too.

ok i could use some help please this car is driving me nuts i replaced the maf sensor, coil pack, and tried a diffrent ecm and still the same problem it's not showing any codes on the direct scan thanks Rob

Let's assume you have no vacuum leaks, spark is good, fuel might be a problem. You've got a F/P gauge? How long does it hold pressure after shut down?
The other thing that might be happening is you've got a bad O2.
I had one blow it's guts, read low all the time.
How do the cross counts and numbers look when you drive?
Who's chip you running?

Ah,my bad.Caught your sig. Red's chips. They always seem to be rich at idle for some reason.Seem to be hard to get to idle cleanly[the ones I've seen up here anyway].

Try a different ignition module. Many times they will fail when they get hot. I had the same problem except my car would idle but it would miss uncer acceleration. John DiCarlo (Red Regal T) has some used modules you can try, or buy an $85 special from advance auto like I did. May not last forever but it will tell you if that is your problem

I would check the O2 sensor also. Doesn't hurt to have a spare one for testing. :)

Secondly I would check the temperature sensor the 2 wire one yellow and black wires I think.

Check with the car hot 160 degrees. Take the connector off the sensor and read the two terminals, should read about 450 ohms and I would use the X100 scale on an analog meter. Digital meters should just give you the proper number.

If not that the book says to check for a damaged crank sensor possibly caused by a bent vane on the rotating disc. Any evidence of rubbing replace the sensor, and of course fix the vanes.

Rob:
It's hard to figure out your problem by reading your post, due to the lack of punctuation and run-on sentences. However, I got it the second time through.;) I would lean towards what the others have said in relation to a bad coil-pack or ignition module. Either one of them could cause the symptoms you've stated. A bad chip would do it too, however it should happen immeadiately, and not after running for 10 minutes. The whole 10 minute thing makes me say "ignition related". The systems will break down as they get hotter and hotter, once they're damaged. In diagnosing, be sure to only replace one thing at a time, to figure out which actual item caused the problem. If you swap it all at once, you're throwing a crap shoot, and hoping to hit it with the right combination. If you have a damaged driver within the ECM, it could cause trouble too, but, it (ECM) should not be affected by heat after running for 10 minutes either. Besides, it appears you tried replacing that already. Remember, do everything one piece at a time.
Hope this helps...

Its sputtering at idle or when you try to accelerate?? If it is when you accelerate then I'll bet MAF (happened to me last year). I was also advised when I was having problems to put di-electric grease in the coilpack connector to possibly solve the problem.

Toups, you spelled immediately wrong, get the point? I know you were probably just joking, so otherwise good information.

Aha! Good point! I was certainly just jokingly encouraging him to make his posts a little easier to read, and at the same time, hopefully offering some useful info. I thoroughly enjoy the good attitudes of the folks on this forum. First class bunch! Thanks for nailing me on the err of my critique...;)

what the car is doing is, it will idle great for about 10 min. then after it warms up it starts surging bad. like it's loading up. black smoke starts puffing out the tail pipes and then when i pulled the plugs they all are coated black carbon. i just changed my O2 sensor and it still does the samething. my fuel pressure is set at 43 pounds. how all this started is when i drove the car it was running GREAT! and then i got on it and it pulled awsome, then when i shut the car off to go to the parts store and came back out to start it is when it did what it's doing. you think you have it nailed down then it does the samething over and over again. but i'll try everything that you guys have told me one thing at a time. thanks for all the help i'll keep you all posted. thanks Rob

Are you using a modded ECM to go with the 55lb injectors?

Have you tried fuel pressures lower than 43 psi?

the ecm is modded by red armstrong. i did try lowering the fuel pressure but i was getting knock with 16 pounds of boost. i went down a pound at a time down to 39 but it likes 43 better with no knock. maybe the other ignition mod and coil pack that i have is bad to it was giving to me

Try a different chip if you can get one. I assume your chip is burned for 55's. We need to look at some scan tool info, BLM's, INT's, etc

ok this is the deal i changed the ignition module still the same stuff going on. it stars doing the surging a loading up when the temp hits 170 degrees but no codes and starts puffing out black smoke thanks Rob
